Lantern Festival @ Albert Park

What a surprise to find out that chinese in Auckland are very active society here. I came across an advertisment promoting Lantern Festivel that will be carried out at Albert Park near by. So my friends and I decided to pay a visit there and to find out what is happening there. Was it fun? and will there be lots of visitors since chinese is not a main population here in Auckland. But I am surprised to find out that there are lots of people, till it is hardly to walk. Whats more to grab a pic or two, we need to take turn. But still I do have a great time there.

Lantern festival. What is the story behind it. Initially we do not intend to go there since we heard that the festival is related to the religion. But after comforming with some peple, we decided to spend some time there since it is only something to do with the culture. So why dont we just grab the opportunity=) There are lots of stall and lantern around with all shapes. It is so colorful there (sampai tak berkelip mata rasenye). Mesmerised with the spirit they have. Eventhough they are not the main population here, but they still manage to conduct a happening festival like that (siap dengan bunga api lagik). How could they do that? Previously in Malaysia, I also admired the chinese there since they still can manage to monopoly the economy, education, and politic as well. I thought it is only something to do with the Malaysian chinese attitude. It suprised me to find out that the same thing happen here. What contribute to this result? Is it because the attitude of chinese itself or the self awareness they have? emm I wonder. I hope I could have the answer.

I miss my Tok Ayah

How do I put this. Being away, watching my tok ayah bedridden in hospital and I could do nothing. It hurts. The only I am capable to do now is cry, pray and thats all. Nothing nore and nothing less. I wish I could be there. Eventhough just staying by his side do nothing, it is much better than sitting here do nothing. But what to do. This is the fate. Semoga tok ayah cepat sembuh, AMIN.

Tok Ayah. He is a great man. At the age of 83, he has no 'penyakit' at all like all yoougster do these days. He keep his active life style, eat regularly. He even count everything he ate. Everything must be in odd numbers, nothing more and nothing less. Hahaha I guess that is the way he keep his health despite his regular routine; berkebun and riding bicycle to the mosque. I am proud of him.

Then another thing bout tok ayah. He is always smart. what I mean is that, he always wear clothes acordingly. During hari raya, he will dress smartly with his coat. He have bout six of them i think and I love when he wear his yellow coat. Then on Friday, he will wear his special fragrance. I think it is 'air 1000 bunga'. Sangat wangi=)

Sometimes I followed him to hospital or anywhere near by. I could say, it is a must that everywhere he went there must be somebody who recognize him. "Cikgu Mat??" yes, that is what people call him. That is what great bout being a teacher, jasa dkenang sampai bila-bila.

Harapnya tok ayah cepat sembuh. Moga tok ayah dberi ketabahan dan kekuatan melawan penyakit ni. Rindu tok ayah n mek sangat. Maaf sebab cannot being there.

Exam is just aroun the corner

University of Auckland

University campus. I went there almost everyday. My sister asked to write bout my university here. She wants to compare my university here with her great University Teknologi Petronas (UTP). So here it is. Sorry, I for taking too much time to write about it.

University of Auckland are divided into several campus like Tamaki campus, Grafton Campus and City campus. As for me, I learned in city campus. From my home, I took about 5-10minutes to arrive there. What is so interesting bout this university architecture is,they build up from both old and modern building. And I love that combination.

Science Centre
Our University, Science Department

Since I am majorng in Mathematics, I am subject to the science faculty which is the the first building I saw after that short walk. Lucky me=) And on top of that, the cafe, University Book Shop, Library, Bank and other university facilities are all closed to each other. I dont have to take another short walk to be there. Another reason why I love to be in science faculty.

Here in University of Auckland, everything was well designed to make the student comfortable feel warm and to help student to excel in their study. We do have short loan service where student could lend a book for several hours inspite of library service which allow student to lend maximum of 7 books for a month. That is a lot for me. Besides that, the university also provide tutorial room, student learning centre which function similar to tuition class for all subjects with only 10 dollar per year. A GOOD bargain isn't it. Besides that, UOA also ave what they called ELSAC to help student who have problem in their English. Especially for student who speak English as their second language. That servise is for free.

What else is interesting here? Friendly people? Yes I could say so. All the lecturers, tutors, university stuff are easy to talk to. Once I went to see the lecturer in 303building. But she is not around. As we turn our back and start heading back, a man called us and ask eiter he could help us. What a surprise. Without knowing who we are,he welcomed us into his room to talk bout stuff we would like to discuss. Yup maybe it is his responsibility. But I love the attitude. Then there is another moment where we waited for our lecturer to ask some question. But since she took so much time to entertain her student at the moment, we decide to meet her later. The same thing happen again. As we took our walk home, she called us and asked, "do you want to ask me any questio". "yes we do". Then she asked the student with at the moment wheter she is done or not. She told us, "I wont let any students with question walk back without any answer". My heart was blooming. Again, I love the people here.

Hope to finish my degree at the right time, AMIN. 2011-Bachelor of Science (mathematics)
